3/4 teaspoon fine salt

1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala (Indian spice blend available at specialty shops)

225g unsalted butter, at room temperature

3/4 cup light brown sugar

1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger

1 large egg, lightly beaten

1/2 cup molasses
